Post-industrial cocoa husk panels
Cocoa Board™ is a bio-based decorative panel manufactured by upcycling post-industrial cocoa husks. Defined by its warm earthy tones, distinctive natural texture and subtle chocolate essence, the material creates a unique sensory experience for furniture, interior architecture and bespoke product applications.

PHEE partnered with ION Chocolate Industry to upcycle the company's annual cocoa husk by-products into a valuable resource, creating Europe's first fully circular closed-loop recycling scheme for cocoa husks using circular technologies, avoiding them entirely from being landfilled. What was once an industrial residue is now the foundation of Cocoa Board™, a bio-based decorative panel developed by PHEE Materials Lab.
With its warm natural tones, distinctive texture, and subtle chocolate aroma, Cocoa Board™ combines circularity with exceptional design. Today, it serves as the base material for ION's premium corporate gifts and promotional products, enabling the company to showcase its sustainability strategy through products made from its own residual biomass.

The project exemplifies PHEE's approach to partnering with industry to upcycle agricultural and industrial residues into high-value materials that combine measurable environmental impact, distinctive aesthetics, and authentic brand storytelling.
